History of the Club

In 1993 Pat McArdle, who was a member of the Oakleaf riding club, got the idea of starting a riding club in the Carlow area. Pat approached Susan Patterson regarding using her premises at Carrigbeg Riding School as a base and was met with a positive response. Notice of a preliminary meeting was sent to all and sundry.

The inaugural meeting was held in the Lord Bagenal Hotel on Thursday 30th September 1993. Twenty four people attended the meeting. Helen Mangan, secretary of the AIRC, addressed the meeting and spoke of the principles and aims of a riding club. She explained that our club would be part of the South East Region of the AIRC. Helen said that the club should encourage having fun as well as good riding as a sport and recreation.

Pat asked for volunteers to form a committe and the following were elected: Chairman Bernard Jordan; Secretary Pat McArdle; Treasurer Jenny Essame; Committee Renie Ashmore, Michele McArdle, Margaret Kinsella, Brian O Connor, Angela Tierney, Bernie o Dwyer.

Club colours were agreed to be Red/Navy.

It was agreed to charge £5 to anyone already a member of another club and £16.50 to all new members until the new subs in Jan 1994.
